Marrow in DC

Published on May 4th, 2015

Chicago’s Marrow slid into DC Thursday April 23rd to play a show at the Black Cat’s intimate Backstage space. The quartet played a trim and tight 11 song set that slotted singles alongside unreleased material. The Dirty Projectors punk of “Paulson” and vocal chimes of “She Choose You” highlighted the early half of the set while “Mother of Maladies”, with its sublime co-ed chorus, and the surprise cover of Bowie-assisted Mott the Hopple classic “All The Young Dudes” owned the end. Both Liam Cunningham and Macie Stewart impressed taking turns as frontperson. What I may have been most struck with was the technical abilities of the band. Whether hurdling technical difficulties or nailing breakdowns, Marrow were significantly more polished than most new outfits. Definitely keep your ear to the ground for when the Chicagoans are swinging through your city or releasing music.
