The prolific Ryan Adams is back with a double album “III/IV”, which is labeled as the “B-sides” to 2007’s Easy Tiger and 2008’s Cardinology. For the fans that have adored his scintillating alt-country releases throughout the past decade: you may be taken aback by the pure rock fury poured into tracks such as “Icebreaker” and “No”.
Adams and the Cardinals show many other colors and musical range throughout the album. From “Star Wars” which musically would make the snobbiest prog rocker grin with approval, to “Stop Playing With My Heart” which ceremoniously pays homage to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. No matter what styles the Cardinals seamlessly lay down, Adams still delivers what has become his staple: superb lyrics and catchy hooks.
